Addiction!

Why is it that people become addicted to anything?
And why is it that addictions are categorized?
You are looked down upon by others for the "Big" addictions, Gambling, Drugs, Alchohol,Tobbaco, etc..
But the Small addictions are O.K?
Overindulgience of food, is that an addiction?
Is there a difference between big and small?
Is it because as humans, we are daily tempted with what feels good?
And why as Christians is it somehow our Faith in God that others question, when they see an addiction that hasn't been overcome, or becomes a struggle for us?
I have friends who are not in a walk with God, and that makes their addictions O.K?
I don't condemn them for it, so why do they condemn me?

ONOM (see Russ's blog), these questions have plagued me for years. There is not enough space to even attempt answers to the questions that you pose but know this. We are all "works in progress" and no matter how others may "judge" us, we answer only to God. He WILL deliver us from evil (Ps. 23) and he will make all things good (Rom. 8:28). BBT

The only addiction that I can think of that is OK is being addicted to Jesus. Some people have some sort of wired tendency to make them more subceptable to addictions. I am one of them. The so-called "big" addictions are looked down at because the of very visable consequences. Also some of them severely impact others and the concern is not for the one addicted, it is for themselves. The consequences of "small" addictions to food, carbohydrates, porno, sex, TV, sports, fitness, health foods and addictions to even many "good" things can be just as or more damaging or life threatening to the addict as alcohol or heroin. There are a lot "worse" addictions than tobacco. It may harm your health, but I don't know if one would lose their soul over tobacco or not. These addictions are attempts by the individual to fill "the hole or emptyness" or to "ease the pain" for a while and some of the addictions are both physically and psychologically addicting. Tobacco physical withdrawl I understand can be over in a few days, but the psychological addiction may never be over. The only Way we can truly be healed, filled, made new again is through Jesus. Yes we all have our addictions and thorns to some degree, and yes we have all come a long we and still have a long way to go. Personally, I got off the tobacco train on May 16th 2002. With Jesus help hopefully for the last time. I have finally acknowledged to myself I have an alcohol addiction and Jesus has freed me from that (Praise GOD). I am still tempted but the strength I have in Jesus pulls me through day by day. As you know I am currently on an ice cream fast. I never met an addiction I did not like, I just haven't met them yet.

Well, you would think I am the rambler!!

Hey now, no slamming the sammy, Jimmy. DEP please pudge him next time he shows up on your blog. Now for the serious part.
Jay, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Ro 3:23) It doesn't say it in past tense, (fall not fallen) meaning everyone continues to sin and fall short. You all know I have a Catholic background...An old nun once told me, "Saints are sinners who kept trying." We will always struggle with addiction of some sort or another, but we need to keep returning to Jesus.
As far as I understand the Judging part... "Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted" (Gal 6:1), and accept the same from others. God Bless You Today
